The Cantilevered House: Innovative Design and Precision Craftsmanship
The Cantilevered House is a striking example of how innovative architecture, thoughtful engineering, and skilled craftsmanship can transform a challenging building site into an extraordinary home. Designed to maximize natural light, capture expansive views, and strengthen the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, the residence combines bold structural elements with carefully considered materials and refined interior details.
Working closely with the homeowners, architect, and structural engineer, Warren Construction Group helped bring this ambitious design to life. The project required close coordination across multiple construction disciplines to resolve complex structural details, source specialized materials, and execute demanding architectural features with precision.
Among the project’s most distinctive elements are large sections of the home cantilevered over angled steel columns, creating a dramatic sense of weightlessness while meeting demanding structural requirements. Inside, floating stairs feature individual treads projecting directly from the wall, while 18-foot-tall concrete walls showcase a distinctive board-formed texture that adds warmth and visual character to the space.
Extensive glazing was another defining feature of the design. Warren Construction Group coordinated the sourcing and installation of oversized glass panels and lift-and-slide doors, opening the home to expansive southern and eastern views while bringing abundant natural light into the interior. These carefully integrated elements reinforce the home’s relationship with its surroundings without compromising functionality or comfort.
Behind the architectural expression is a sophisticated mechanical system designed to provide efficient, reliable year-round comfort. Air-to-water heat pumps provide heating and cooling, complemented by a gas-fired Viessmann boiler for domestic hot water and supplemental heating. Zehnder energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) provide controlled ventilation while recovering energy from outgoing air. The system can be monitored and controlled remotely through a web-based platform accessible from a smartphone or tablet.
The Cantilevered House reflects Warren Construction Group’s ability to manage technically demanding residential projects where architectural ambition, structural complexity, and building performance must work together. Through close collaboration, detailed planning, and precision craftsmanship, our team helped transform an ambitious design into a distinctive home built around its setting and the way its owners live.
The completed project showcases Warren Construction Group’s expertise in custom residential construction, modern architecture, and high-performance building practices. The result is a one-of-a-kind home that balances innovative design, structural ingenuity, and lasting craftsmanship.
