Friends School receives Special Detail Recognition Award

In a long list of accolades, The Friends School of Portland and Warren Construction Group are again in the spot light.

The Maine chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) recently announced the 2016 AIA Maine Design Awards. The Special Detail Recognition Award for the school was presented at a celebration which showcased over 60 of Maine’s best architectural projects.  As only the 3rd Passive House Certified School in the States, this unique building generates 100% of its energy on site through 40kW of Photovoltaic panels mounted on the roof. The majority of the inside mill work comes from the original trees which stood on the site and where harvested and milled. Working closely with Architect Phil Kaplan, from Kaplin Thompson Architects and a core group of enthusiastic people, the project’s success was due to the dedication of the building committee, the school’s community and the many professionals involved.
